An iris spotted in a Western Area yard yesterday morning. The white substance is not quite snow but rather graupel — snowflakes that have been coated with hoarfrost as they fell, forming little white balls.
Thanks for the description of graupel. This stuff came down on Sunday night in the next town over from us. . .and, new to the Pacific Northwest, we didn't know what to call it.
Isn't it nice to see flowers popping up?
